4 Beginner Friendly Hikes in Vancouver

Vancouver is best known for its outdoor summer activities, kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, fishing, night market. In this blog post, we are featuring four beginner-friendly hikes in Vancouver. Pro tip: If you are only free during the weekend, make sure to arrive early enough to secure a parking spot.

Quarry Rock

Quarry Rock and Capilano Suspension Bridge, Grouse Mountain are North Vancouver’s top tourist attractions and it is a perfect day-trip combo. The trail of Quarry Rock is made with stairs, bridges and you will be able to see the canyon and stream. When you reach the peak of the quarry rock, you will actually step on a big piece of rock and will have a panoramic view of the deep cove and Indian arm.

3.8km, in which you can finish the trail in 2 hours. You may finish the trail with a Canadian-style brunch as there are lots of restaurants close by.

Lighthouse Park 

Located in West Vancouver, it is a 20 minutes drive from downtown Vancouver. Lighthouse Park is one of Greater Vancouver’s most beautiful parks with coastal forests and a lighthouse. It is an ideal location for anyone who wants to experience the seaside sunset while catching up with friends.

6km, in which you can finish the trail in 1 hour. The shortest trial only takes 15 minutes. 

Grouse Grind

If you haven’t heard of Grouse Grind, how about Grouse Mountain? Yes, Grouse Grind is located at Grouse Mountain and shuttle buses are available from Canada Place. Opened from May to October, it is considered one of the most classic hikes in Vancouver. When you reach the peak, you will enjoy the amazing scenery of downtown Vancouver, wildlife (Grizzly bear in a protected area), the lumberjack show, and the eye of the wind (North America’s first high-altitude wind turbine).

2.9km, in which you can finish the whole trail in 2 hours and take the tram down.

Sasamat Lake

Sasamat Lake is located within Belcarra Regional Park. Rather than saying it is a serious hiking place, it is more a family-friendly lake-side walking trail with beaches at the end of the lake. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the trial is open for one way only and the parking square has cut half of its capacity. Therefore, it is more recommended to visit Sasamat Lake during the weekdays. To better enjoy the mountain scenery by the beach, you may also want to bring the BBQ grill and board game with you (It is also dog friendly).
