IRCC will update international student work hour from 20 to 24 per week this fall | CCC College
As of Fall this year, international student work hour is expected to raise from 20 to 24 hours during scheduled study period in response to the end of temporary policy on maximum 40 work hours for international students during the pandemic.
The new international student work hour cap for international students is aiming to “strike the appropriate balance so students have the option to work without comprising academic outcomes.” stated by Immigration Minister Marc Miller in April, 2024. However, the exact date of this implementation has not been confirmed by IRCC yet, but it is expected to take effect sometime within this fall. Therefore, current international students must stick with the current 20 work hours cap until IRCC announces further notice.
Students are also allowed to work outside their educational institution and the campus without international student work hour limitation during scheduled breaks, including summer and winter holidays. Self-employed jobs, such as Uber driver or food delivery, are counted as off-campus work that students could choose.
* While the new international student work hour update has not been launched, students must still follow IRCC current limitation on off-campus international student work hour policy, who do not comply with the policy could result in study permit cancellation and even having to leave the country.
